Bound to Stitch is a haven for crafters interested in books, paper and/or textile. The spacious, well-equipped studio is located 3 miles from the centre of Winchester, Hampshire.
It is a fantastic place to master the art of bookbinding – covering most aspects from traditional bindings to experimental artists’ books. Learn how to construct the book block, cover and case it in and make a beautiful slip case or box to safely store your precious book.
Choose from a range of papers and book cloths to personalise the cover of your book and incorporate collage, letterpress, lino and Gelli plate printing to make it truly unique.
I also make experimental books from folded paper from flag books, accordion books, pocket style books and books with flaps. I am fascinated by pop-up structures and moving parts. Some of my books are decorated with stitches.
At Bound to Stitch I teach most aspects of creative stitching. I use both hand embroidery and free-motion machine embroidery to add rich texture to appliqued and embellished pieces. I work with all kinds of fabric, often dyeing my own cotton, linen, wool and silk. Vintage scraps along with old findings and trimmings are often incorporated to personalise my pieces.
I stitch into leather to create richly decorated material to use to cover books and I also make cloth books as an alternative way to display textile art.
I make wet felt and use my embellishing machine to add interesting textures to the felt. I make decorative pieces from the felt, including Christmas decorations and ornaments.
I offer a range of half-, full-day and two-day workshops. Class numbers are kept small to ensure everyone gets the tuition and attention they need in a covid-safe environment. I also offer one-to-one tuition. I am also available to give workshops and talks to groups.
